Junior Spell Wins Fourth State Championship!
Our Junior Spell Bowl Team has won its fourth title in five years in the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) Spell Bowl State Championships. Led by Coach Mary Ann Chamberlin and Coach Nicole Snyder, the team correctly spelled 68 out of a possible 72 words. This score of 68 was the highest ever in a state finals appearance for St. Roch. The state finals were held at Purdue University’s Loeb Playhouse in front of a standing room only crowd of over one thousand people.
The season started with nearly 200 teams, with only 30 teams qualifying for the state finals. St. Roch’s margin of victory was an impressive sixteen words. Spellers Nicko Greene, Kate Lucid, Jonathon Snyder, and Abigail Snyder all had perfect scores while Bridget Agresta, Xavier Wilson, Celeste Gorball, and Eva Fox had near-perfect scores.
“The fourth title is as exciting as the first,” said Mrs. Chamberlin. “It’s wonderful that this group is continuing the tradition of winning. The team worked very hard and deserved their success. Mrs. Snyder and Coach Siana Fox were extremely helpful,” added Mrs. Chamberlin.
Way to go Junior Spell Bowl!
Congratulations Spell Bowl team. We are PROUD of your effort!
